Six
By Seven, The Charlotte, Leicester 12.04.02
Tonight
we are all given a good lesson on how to sound really huge. Six by Seven
give lots of hipper bands a thorough spanking as they create a roaring
texture of post punk indie rock. If you’ve heard of this Nottingham
band before then you may have heard them described as “Not as big
as they should be” or “Always undeservingly overlooked”.
Watching Six by Seven I can understand why. There is little charisma in
this band and that job is usually the duty of the singer, Chris Olley
hulks around in his awkward six foot something frame looking quite dejected.
Six by Seven look like a pub band, but sound like stadium fillers. Until
we get a real focus in terms of personality I can’t see Six by Seven
ever losing the “Almost Famous” tag.
