Sea Power, The Charlotte, Leicester 12.04.02
Four
clean looking boys come centre stage and transform into a collection of
post horror movie victims whove survived the evil to tell us of
the strange beasts lurking somewhere beyond. They are surrounded by props,
which are stuffed animals including an Owl (an omen of impending death
according to some superstitions). Large branches are dangling down and
some are attached to the musicians.
This in whole effectively looks like the lair of the log lady from Twin
Peaks.
The music is a cocktail of Teardrop Explodes and vintage David Bowie it
is quite amazing that this 80s influenced band isnt deemed
un-cool, this is because they are so wonderfully entertaining. The singer
and bass player both wear an expression described in the face of the painting
The Scream by Edvard Munch. All this makes the fascination
of the crowd grow to a level that makes this band one the most intriguing
and exciting things Ive seen for a long, long time. You really must
see this band to believe it.
