In Heaven - Beast Rest Forth Mouth (Home Tapes) 17/05/2010
I think
it wise to start here, I just can't get my head round this album's name,
I mean 'Beast' 'Rest' 'Forth' 'Mouth', what exactly are they trying
to tell us? Perhaps I'm just stupid, to think that what seems a random
colection of words should mean anything at all, or perhaps I should
just leave you with "I am stupid"!
As if I'd do that, when a band with such a cuddly name produce what
will certainly be among the best of the year. Simply awesome, an album
possesing pace, purpose and presence, I'm blown away by this one. A
collection of tunes you can lose yourself within, slip onto repeat and
time becomes inconsiquent. But such an album that might at first seem
entirely irrelevant can actually find purpose in making the listener
feel better, lost in these sounds I can fully understand where its creativity
lies, rhythms that drive, but are not driven and melodies that elevate.-=
Bear In Heaven, created this one within four walls in Broklyn,
NYC. Outside; councrete and greenery (somewhere), setting a sonic stage
Waters, Gilmor and Mason's Pink Floyd might be at home. Irregular patterns
that simply want to be heard, want to be understood (but this one might
never be resolved), just accept and be with this quartet, it's in no
way a chore!
A sound that is obviously looking forward and not remaking what was
fashionable yesterday (even though this album was released, on import
in October of last year - this maybe considered an oxymoron, but live
with it). Bear... have got the point that change is the only way forward,
I'm happy. 9/10
